Your Brain on Golf

Every shot you play is the end of a chain of decisions. This maps that chain — not every possibility that exists, but as many as I could account for. More than anything it’s a picture of the mental work this game asks of you, which might explain why it feels so hard.

How to Use “Your Brain on Golf”

Using Your Brain on Golf is simple. Start at the top of the flowchart with the question, “What condition is my ball in?” Select the answer that best describes your current situation and follow the connecting line to the next question. Continue answering each question and following the corresponding path until you reach the end of the decision-making process and are ready to execute your shot. Once you’ve hit the shot, the process starts all over again. Return to the top, evaluate your ball’s new condition, and work your way through the questions again. The flowchart is a continuous loop, guiding you through the decision-making process for every shot you play. As you become more familiar with the questions and their order, the process should become more natural, helping you make deliberate, informed decisions throughout your round.

Where this came from

I built the first version of this instead of writing a Pondering one week. It has grown since, partly from feedback — Coach Conley’s notes are why there was a version 2. If you think something belongs on it that isn’t there, tell me and I’ll see what I can do.
